TotalEnergies is strengthening its cooperation with three national oil and gas companies — PETRONAS in Malaysia, SONANGOL in Angola, and Oil India Limited (OIL) in India — to accelerate methane emissions reduction as part of the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC).
The partnerships focus on three main initiatives:
– Malaysia: TotalEnergies is working with PETRONAS, JOGMEC and JGC Corporation to develop SEA METEC, a regional centre dedicated to evaluating methane detection and measurement technologies and harmonising monitoring methodologies across Southeast Asia.
– Angola: Through an agreement with SONANGOL, TotalEnergies aims to share its technical expertise to reduce methane emissions and gas flaring, improve energy efficiency, promote facility electrification and develop carbon management solutions.
– India: TotalEnergies and OIL are expanding their collaboration through additional field campaigns using TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology to detect and quantify methane emissions, following a successful initial campaign covering more than 20 sites.
Through these partnerships, TotalEnergies aims to share its technologies, expertise and best practices to support its partners in reducing their carbon footprint.
Main objective: to contribute to achieving near-zero methane emissions from upstream operations by 2030.
