Trafigura has secured a USD 1.5 billion five-year loan, partly guaranteed by the German government through Euler Hermes, to support a contract to supply SEFE with over 150 TWh of natural gas between 2026 and 2031.
The financing will strengthen Germany’s energy security by ensuring long-term gas supplies, primarily sourced from Trafigura’s global gas portfolio, with deliveries starting on 1 November 2026.
The loan was arranged by a syndicate of nine banks, coordinated by KfW IPEX-Bank. The agreement also reinforces the long-standing partnership between Trafigura, SEFE and the German government, highlighting the role of ECA-backed financing in securing strategic energy supplies to Europe.
